Eighteen Catalan companies and organisations are to participate in Jazzahead! in Bremen, under the internationalisation brand Catalan Arts

From 27 to 30 April, the 2017 edition of the international jazz fair Jazzahead! in Bremen, will host a Catalan presence comprising twelve companies, three festivals, a radio programme dedicated to jazz and two Catalan cultural institutions. The Catalan presence in Bremen, Germany, will be centred on the Ministry of Culture's stand, organised through the Markets Area of the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) under its internationalisation brand for Catalan cultural and creative companies, Catalan Arts. The Ministry of Culture aims to use the stand to promote the sector by publicising new Catalan proposals amongst industry professionals, mainly programmers and managers of music festivals.

The organisations present at the fair are attending with the aim of establishing new contacts that will enable them to get a foothold in both the German and the wider international market, or to consolidate links already established at previous editions of the fair. The Catalan companies that have so far confirmed their attendance at Jazzahead! are: Àngels Mas Music Productions, S.L., Associació Cultural Arco y Flecha, Bacana, Balaio Producciones, Black Music ProductionsCentral Art Process, David Pastor Jazz TrumpetDistrijazzFira Mediterrània de ManresaGalbany Produccions/Jazz al Port, Intermusic, Mercat de Música Viva de VicMontuno ProduccionesTarragona Ràdio “Paraula de Jazz”, Taller de MúsicsInstitut Català de les Empreses Culturals and Institut Ramon Llull.

Chicuelo – Mezquida in the official Jazzahead line-up!

The Catalan duo Chicuelo – Mezquida will be performing within the official line-up at Jazzahead! in the European Jazz Meeting section. The concert will take place on Friday, 28 April, at 22.00 at the Kulturzentrum Schlachfthof. Chicuelo – Mezquida is currently one of the most prominent acts on the Catalan music scene, combining the talent of Juan Gómez Chicuelo, one of the most influential contemporary flamenco guitarists, and Marco Mezquida, a pianist with a style that explores and draws on a multitude of influences.

Also appearing will be Leo Genovese Trio in the Overseas Night section. The concert will take place on Saturday, 29 April, at 00.50 in Hall 7.1, Messe Bremen. This is the first time that a Catalan company, in this case Taller de Músics, has had the opportunity to present two of the acts it represents at the Jazzahead! festival.

This year, on Friday, 28 April, at 17.00 there will be a small reception at the stand with Catalan wines, courtesy of the DO Catalunya wine designation of origin. The reception is aimed at promoting informal networking between the Catalan professionals and international delegates visiting the fair.
