  • Seven entities in the field of music and performing arts of Catalonia will attend the BIS on January 17th and 18th with the Catalan Arts stand of the Department of Culture of the Catalan Government.
  • The Biennales Internationales du Spectacle, which accredited 12,286 professionals in the last edition, are an essential event for the live arts sector that want to access the French market.


Catalonia will count on the 17th and the 18th of January with an institutional stand in the Biennales Internationales du Spectacle de Nantes (BIS), organised by the Catalan Department of Culture, through the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals (ICEC) under its mark for internationalisation Catalan Arts, in which seven entities of music and performing arts sector will be represented.

Organised biannually since 2004 by the magazine La Scène and directed by Nicolas Marc, the BIS are considered one of the key encounters of the cultural sector in France and the only one with the capacity to gather in each edition more than 12,000 participants and 346 exhibitors. The groups and companies presented in this edition are: Barcelona sound Platform, Campi Qui can produccions, La Companya del Príncep Totilau, Rhythm & Flow, Sound de Secà, Taller de Músics, Tap Olé, as well as the Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals.

The presence of Catalan professionals at the BIS is usual. This will be the sixth edition with a Catalan presence through a stand and the fifth in which the stand, organised by the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya, is located in the Place des Tournées. La Place des Tournées is an important area of independent stands of the BIS and this year celebrates its tenth edition. The institutional stand of Catalonia is located one more year in the kiosk No. 38 of this area of reference in which the French programmers come to search for the content to prepare the programming of the next season. For the participating companies it is an exceptional opportunity to know the key professionals of the sector and to present their own artistic proposals towards a specialised public.

The rest of the exhibition space count with the presence of professional organizations of the cultural sector, service management companies, training centres, generalist French press as well as cultural press and organisms of the edition; in order to offer the maximum of proposals to the professionals.

The internationalisation of Catalan cultural companies

The Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) is a public institution that looks after the development and the consolidation of the Catalan creative sectors as uplift for its professionalization. In the frame of the Government of Catalonia’s Ministry of Culture, ICEC advises and accompanies Catalan companies in their development process in several sectors such as: performing arts, visual arts, audio-visual, books, music and digital culture.

Catalan Arts is the brand used by ICEC for international promotion of Catalan companies. Via ICEC’s European offices network (Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, London and Paris) we work on a variety of lines of action to connect, mentor and support creative companies in their international journey. To this end, with Catalan Arts we strengthen the presence of Catalan companies and creative works at international fairs and key professional events. We also offer all kinds of useful materials and resources to professionals based in Catalonia seeking to develop their projects internationally, as well as to professionals from other countries looking for artistic productions and willing to establish contact with their creators and promoters.
