  • The ICEC is organising a Catalan Arts booth to support contemporary Catalan dance at this year's Internationale Tanzmesse in Düsseldorf, in which 26 Catalan companies and institutions will take part from 29 August to 1 September.
  • Catalonia to dance at Tanzmesse 2018: performances by the Iron Skulls Co, Guy Nader and Maria Campos, Colectivo Lamajara's open studio pitch and a panel discussion are scheduled in this year's official programme.

The Ministry of Culture's Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC), under its internationalisation brand, Catalan Arts, is once again organising an institutional booth at the Internationale Tanzmesse in Düsseldorf in support of contemporary Catalan dance. Twenty-six companies and institutions from Catalonia will be participating. The Catalan booth will offer a comprehensive image of the sector and will help Catalan professionals carry out their activities at the event.

Internationale Tanzmesse, whose 12th edition will take place this year in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 29 August to 1 September, is the leading world event for contemporary dance professionals and is held every two years. The event boasts a 1,000 m2 exhibition area that will see nearly 1,900 professionals (companies, choreographers, dancers, agencies, representatives, programmers, cultural institutions and other agents in the sector) from over 50 countries.

The ICEC has attended the Tanzmesse on behalf of the Ministry of Culture for years now as part of an international strategy to promote contemporary Catalan dance, since it is an excellent opportunity for professionals in this sector.

Among the Ministry of Culture's support activities is the networking event to be held at the Catalan booth (57 Government of Catalonia – Catalan Arts) on Thursday, August 30, at 1:30 pm. The goal is to foster contact between the Catalan professionals and the programmers and festival representatives present at the event. Under its internationalisation brand, Catalan Arts, the ICEC has also published a promotional booklet that will be distributed during the event and made available online to boost the visibility of Catalan professionals participating in the event.

The Catalan representatives attending Tanzmesse are as follows: Agente129, Cía Pol Jiménez, Cia. Sebastían García Ferro, Cobosmika, Colectivo Lamajara, Companía de Circo “eia”, Delrevés Vertical Dance, El Ballet imperial de la reina Rosamunda, Fani Benages Arts Escèniques, GN/MC Guy Nader and Maria Campos, Humanhood, Imaginart Gestió d’Espais Escènics, Iron Skulls Co, Joan Català, La Intrusa - Virgina García & Damián Munoz, La Petita Malumaluga, La Veronal, MIKA Project, Sol Picó, Thomas Noone Dance, Thorus Arts, el Danseu Festival, the strategic marketplace for dance in Catalonia Sismògraf, Mercat de les Flors, Institut Ramon Llull and the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC).

Catalonia to dance at Tanzmesse 2018: two performances, an open studio pitch and a panel discussion in this year's official programme

Performances by Catalan dancers and dance companies are also scheduled for the event. The Iron Skulls Co will perform Sinestesia (Wednesday, 29 August, at 8:30 pm), Guy Nader and Maria Campos have choreographed Fall Seven Times, which was given the Der Faust award in 2017 and has been created specifically for Tanzmainz, Straatstheater Mainz (Friday, 31 August, at 8:30 pm), and Colectivo Lamajara will present Al Voltant (Thursday, 30 August, at 4:00 pm). As in previous years, the Catalan companies have been chosen to form part of the event's artistic team after having applied to the call to be in the official programme.

In addition, this year's T-Talks will include a panel discussion organised by the Institut Ramon Llull entitled Dancing between public sphere, landscape and architecture: Catalonia from recent past to present. The discussion will be held on 31 August at 5:15 pm and will initiate a dialogue regarding the relationship between dance and architecture, the event's main topic this year. It has been organised by choreographers Cesc Gelabert and Magí Serra and will be chaired and led by Professor Ester Vendrell.
