The Catalan stand at the Book Fair in Guadalajara, Mexico, once again highlights the variety and vitality of Catalan publishing represented by a large number of professionals

 • 38 Catalan publishers will be represented on the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies’ stand at the International Book Fair in Guadalajara

For the fourth year running, Catalonia will have an institutional stand at the 32nd Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico, organised by the Ministry of Culture via the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) and its international brand, Catalan Arts - Books.

Catalan publishers have traditionally had a strong presence at the event. The Ministry of Culture hopes to use its stand to promote the work of publishers and all those involved in the world of books in Catalonia, by presenting a unified image of the sector to professionals in Latin America.

The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), which will take place from 24 November to 2 December 2018, is the most important event of this kind in Latin America and the largest in the world featuring publications in Spanish. It is an event that features book rights trading, major Latin American book distributors and a public, cultural festival where books and writers are the stars of the show.

The 31st edition of the fair was attended by 814,833 visitors with representatives from 47 countries, nearly 2,000 publishers, 20,748 professionals from the world of books, 337 agents and 130 companies taking part in the Rights Center.

Catalonia's stand at the FIL is an open space for networking among professionals in the industry (editors, literary agents, association, etc.) and is designed so that they can hold business meetings, meet with their foreign counterparts and exhibit the variety and vitality of the Catalan publishing industry.

The following Catalan publishers will be participating: Acali, Antonio Bosch Editor, Blume Editorial, booq Publishing, Centro de Pastoral Litúrgica, Cinco Tintas, Coco Books, Edebé, Ediciones del Serbal, Edicions de 1984, Edigol Ediciones, Editorial Alrevés, Editorial Casals, Editorial Flamboyant, Editorial Juventud, Editorial Milenio, GalaBooks Ediciones, Grupo Helio, IberLibro-Editors, Inde Editorial, Librería de Libros, Libros de Cabecera, Llop Roig, Manolito Books, Marcombo, MTM Editores, Ned Ediciones, Pagès Editors, Profit Editorial-Amat Editorial, Rayo Verde Editorial and Redbook Ediciones.

International presence of Catalan publishers

The Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies’ participation in the Guadalajara International Book Fair reflects the Ministry of Culture’s policy of supporting the international growth of Catalan publishing houses, with the sector’s presence at the main events in the international calendar. Of particular note is the Frankfurt Book Fair, where many major contractual agreements regarding publishing rights are made, the Bologna Book Fair, specialising in books for children and young people, and the London Book Fair, which focuses on the negotiation of rights and is considered the "most important book event of the spring season" in the international calendar.

Catalan publishers have traditionally had a strong presence at the event. 32 publishers took part in the 2018 fair, representing all sectors of the industry.
