More than 20 Catalan organisations to participate at the Catalan Arts - Music stand at WOMEX

• The event, which will take place from 23 to 27 October, is the world's most important international fair dedicated to musicians.

• The Catalan stand, organised by the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies, is one of the many activities carried out by the Ministry of Culture to encourage the internationalisation of the music industry.

Once again, Catalan music will be represented at a stand at the WOMEX, which will be organised by the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) as part of its internationalisation brand Catalan Arts - Music. 21 Catalan companies, artists, fairs and institutions will be represented at the stand.

WOMEX, the twenty-fifth edition of which is being held in Tampere (Finland) between 23 and 27 October, is the most international music gathering in the world and the biggest conference on the global music scene, featuring a trade fair, talks and concerts. The event has been held every year since 1994 and brings together more than 2,400 delegates from over 90 countries.

With a stand under the international banner of Catalan Arts - Music, the ICEC aims to give a big boost to the business activities of the different players involved while at the same time offering a cohesive overview of the sector. The stand is a work and exhibition space open to industry professionals, and it is designed so that they can carry out business meetings, meet up with their foreign counterparts and exhibit the variety and vitality the Catalan music scene has to offer.

The Catalan stand (1,104 - 1,109) will host representatives from the following 21 organisations, among which are two from Catalonia's strategic markets: AYOM, Babel Arts Barcelona – Mira Mundo, Bacana, Black Music Productions, Compota de Manana, Escenamusic, Èxits Produccions & Management, Hamsa Hamsa, Julio Quintas – Management & Booking, Rosazul Música, Sambach, Sonde 3 Producciones, Sound Diplomacy, Tim Pearce, Manresa Mediterranean Performing Arts Fair, Jazz I Am – Taller de Músics, Vic Live Music Market, Espai Marfà – Creation Centre for Music / Girona City Council, City of Olot Institute of Culture, Institut Ramon Llull and the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies itself.

Among the activities organised in the Catalan area, there will be a networking session on Friday 25 October at 1:30 pm which aims to foster new relationships between professionals.

The ICEC has also published a booklet of companies under the Catalan Arts - Music brand, which will be distributed to accredited professionals to further promote the work of the Catalan companies.

Using the ICEC as its platform, the Ministry of Culture has attended the WOMEX for many years, as it provides excellent exposure for Catalan bands as well as a wide range of companies (management agencies, record labels and publishing houses, among others.) from Catalonia. With a view to promoting the music industry, activities are regularly organised abroad under the Catalan Arts - Music brand which, in 2019, include fairs and festivals like the Eurosonic Festival (the Netherlands), the Internationale Kulturbörse Freiburg (Germany), Jazzahead! (Germany), Classical:Next (the Netherlands), Focus Wales (Wales), Midem (France), MaMA (France) and Womex (Finland).

Conscious of the strategic role played by the meeting and exchange spaces provided at festivals and fairs in Catalonia, the ICEC also works in coordination with the strategic music markets in Catalonia to organise networking events with professionals from all around the world. In 2019, Catalan Arts - Music has also been involved in activities such as professional workshops at Vic Live Music Market, and presentations by international press at Primavera Pro Festival and Sonar Festival.
