Global Music Match Week#2 focuses on Anna Andreu
Global Music Match Week#2 focuses on Anna Andreu

Catalan Music we're joining, along with Mercat de Música Viva de Vic and export organisations and showcase events from around the world, Global Music Match, a pilot initiative created to continue raising the profile of local artists in international music markets within the challenging parameters of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is a unique response to the limitations imposed on the music industry, that makes use of the only available platform – social media and peer-to-peer collaboration – to increase networks and exposure for export-ready artists internationally. Each week, one band/musician from each country will 'introduce' another artist from a different country, engaging with them on social media to cross promote to their audiences.

In Week#2 the focus artist on Team#13 has been the Catalan artist, Anna Andreu. She has been interviewed by Global Music Match colleagues from Finland, Scotland, Estonia, Wales and Norway. Therefore her music has been playing all week via social networks and engaging with new audiences.

After the experience fronting Cálido Home, Anna Andreu felt the need to change English for Catalan and, in her own words, sing in the language in which she dreams and in which things happen to her. The change in the language, treated with the utmost care, has really highlighted the emotional honesty of her songs. This has resulted in an album, Els mals costums (Hidden Tracks Records, 2020), made in collaboration with Marina Arrufat, on which pop folk sounds like the crackling foliage that witnesses the passage from spring to summer.
