The fifth edition of the Forum Entreprendre dans la Culture, organised by the French Ministry of Culture, takes place on 22-24 May at the École de Beaux-Arts in Paris.

This year, the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC), through its internationalisation brand Catalan Arts, will be taking a stand to showcase the Catalan start-ups Acqustic and Cooncert, which will be presenting their projects at a pitching session alongside other companies from France, Germany and Quebec. This pitching session will take place during the afternoon of Thursday 23 May (16:15 - 18:00 at Amphithéatre gauche) followed by a drinks and networking session.

The start-up Acqustic specialises in organising ‘secret’ concerts through which it supports more than 3,000 upcoming musicians in Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. This initiative, founded by Esteve Lombarte, won first prize at the start-up competition organised by the professional conference at BIME in Bizkaia. In addition, the newspaper El País selected it among its “best five start-ups at the Mobile World Congress” in 2019.

Meanwhile, Cooncert is a platform where users can propose and/or vote for musicians they want to perform in their city. This initiative aims to give the general public a chance to influence the decisions on which artists they can watch live at their local venues, without the need for any intermediaries. The objective, therefore, is to generate “a direct relationship between artists and their fans”, to quote the start-up.

The Forum Entreprendre dans la Culture is an annual event organised by the Direction générale des médias et des industries culturelles (General Directorate of Media and Cultural Industries) of the French Ministry of Culture, the aim being to support and promote cultural actors, sector professionals and students who have projects in development or are starting up a company in the cultural sector.

The event, which focuses on networking, facilitates the development and fulfilment of projects in their initial or early phases and also provides a gateway to the French market, as it is attended by entrepreneurs, business executives, creators of start-ups and members of public and private organisations in the cultural sphere.

A total of 250 experts and speakers attended the 2018 event, which had around 2,000 participants. This year, more than 200 speakers –including business experts on entrepreneurship as well as creatives– will be sharing their experiences over the three days of the event in the six conference spaces set up at the venue. A total of 70 round tables and workshops will be held on a variety of subjects, such as financing, support for structuring companies, the digital transition, international development, and cultural associations.

This year, the Forum will be divided into three themed areas: the seminar on 22 May will be devoted to the basic requirements for creating a cultural company as well as meetings focusing on the sectors of music, the plastic arts, and international mobility.

The second day, 23 May, will be dedicated to the digital world, innovation in culture, and cultural start-ups. The meetings on this day will focus on the film, audio-visual and architectural sectors. There will also be several round tables on entrepreneurship and artistic creation in Africa, with a view to the cultural season Africa 2020, which will showcases the latest information on contemporary creation in Africa around France.

Finally, 24 May will centre on the social economy and solidarity, supported by a meeting focusing on the sectors of the performing arts, audience development, and cultural tourism.

Entrance to the event is free of charge.
