Catalonia will once again be represented at Midem in Cannes, with 13 Catalan music-related businesses showcasing their products and services at the institutional stand organised by the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) through its internationalisation brand, Catalan Arts.

Midem has been running since 1967 and is considered the leading international gathering for key players in the music industry. Aside from the activity in the Palais des Festivals exhibition area, where the Catalan participants will be able to capitalise on the networking opportunities, the event will also showcase musical acts from all over the world and include a full programme of conferences, debates and other professional activities each day.

The Catalan stand at Midem (P3.B7) will serve as a workspace for the Catalan music industry professionals attending the event, providing a base from which they will be able to conduct meetings, showcase their projects and innovations and form contacts with potential new international partners. In addition to the Catalan Institute for Cultural CompaniesCatalan Arts brand, representatives from 13 Catalan organisations will be taking part in this year’s event: Acqustic, BMAT, Discmedi, Distribucions Musicals 09, Ediciones Musicales Clipper’s, Hans Kusters Music, La Cupula Music, Meta Network, Music List, Nacar Management, SonoSuite, Teddysound and Unison.

Music List’s objective is to add content to various music streaming services. Among other things, the start-up analyses music habits and trends to create themed playlists, which are updated periodically. The other Midemlab awards categories are ‘Music creation & education’, ‘Music discovery & distribution’ and ‘Experiential technologies’. The competition winners, decided by a judging panel made up of 21 industry experts, will be announced on Wednesday 5 June at 5 pm.

This year’s High-Potential Markets Programme will feature two focus areas: the African Forum and the Latin American Forum. Nigerian artist and founder of the Berry's Room label, Maleek Berry, will be acting as the ambassador of the African Forum, while the Latin American Forum will feature Q&A sessions both with Madrid-based singer C. Tangana and the president of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Latin America and US Latin, Germany, the United Kingdom and North America will also be featured within the Country Focuses sector.

In addition, the event will also host a wide variety of other conferences and round table discussions including keynote speeches by the CEO of US record label Epic Records, Sylvia Rhone, who has worked with artists such as ABBA, Drake, Glenn Miller, Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam and Shakira; and top US producer, manager to singer Lady Gaga, among others, and founder and CEO of Atom Factory, Troy Carter.
