33 Catalan publishers will be represented on the Catalan stand at Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico

For the fifth year running, Catalonia will have an institutional stand at the 33rd Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico, organised by the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC) and its international brand, Catalan Arts – Books, representing 33 companies in the publishing sector.

The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL), which will take place from 30 November to 8 December 2019, is the most important event of this kind in Latin America and the largest in the world featuring publications in Spanish. It is an event that features book rights trading, major Latin American book distributors and a public, cultural festival where books and writers are the stars of the show.

The 32nd edition of the fair was attended by 819.000 visitors with representatives from 47 countries, nearly 2.280 publishers, 19.740 professionals from the world of books, 328 agents and 150 companies taking part in the Rights Center.

Catalan publishers have traditionally had a strong presence at the event. 38 Catalan publishers took part in the 2018 fair, representing all sectors of the industry.

Catalonia's stand at FIL 2019 is an open space for networking among professionals in the industry (editors, literary agents, institutions, etc.) and it is designed so that they can hold business meetings, meet with their foreign counterparts and exhibit the variety and vitality of the Catalan publishing industry.

The following 33 Catalan publishers will be participating at FIL 2019: A buen paso, Acali, Blume Editorial, booq Publishing, Centro de Pastoral Litúrgica, Cinco Tintas, Coco Books, Difusiones Editoriales Helio, Edebé, Edigol Ediciones, Editorial Casals, Editorial Flamboyant, Editorial Juventud, Editorial Milenio, GalaBooks Ediciones, Hoaki Books, Iberlibro-Editors, Inde Editorial, Librería de Libros, Libros de Cabecera, Manolito Books, Marcombo, Ned Ediciones, Pagès Editors, Pol·len Ediciones, Plutón Ediciones, Profit Editorial-Amat Editorial, Redbook Ediciones, Roisib Ediciones, Sentir, Superminiforts-Eva Prenafeta, Virus Editorial and Zahorí Books.

Along with the association Gremi d’Editors de Catalunya, the Associació d’Editors en Llengua Catalana, the Institut Ramon Llull (IRL) and the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC).

International presence of Catalan publishers

The Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies’ participation in the Guadalajara International Book Fair reflects the Ministry of Culture’s policy of supporting the international growth of Catalan publishing houses, with the sector’s presence at the main events in the international calendar. Of particular note is the Frankfurt Book Fair, where many major contractual agreements regarding publishing rights are made, the Bologna Book Fair, specialising in books for children and young people, the London Book Fair, which focuses on the negotiation of rights and is considered the "most important book event of the spring season" in the international calendar, and the Buenos Aires Book Fair, in which this year Barcelona was the guest city of honour.
